By buying a pedigree puppy from a responsible breeder, you are buying a puppy born into a pre planned litter, with parents, carefully selected for their physical and genetic history. There are breeds of dogs that are gentically predisposed to various illnesses(tumors, displasia, etc.), but a responsible breeder leaves out of their breeding program any animals predisposed to these illnesses. This doesn't mean that there is complete assurance that an animal will not suffer from such illness, however, there is much less probability of this happening with a responsible breeding program which analyzes each animal's condition and their family history.
